I'm currently in the market for tie-down hardware for our racecar and since I have only borrowed what other people have loaned with their trailers in the past, I really don't know where to start. So what say you Oppo, what do you use and what do you recommend for securing a car on a flatbed? Cost is definitely a concern, but keeping the car on the trailer is definitely important.

I usually use four ratchet straps (front and rear axle on both sides) and a length of chain around the front axels as a backup. I've only towed old cars so finding a sturdy piece of steel to anchor these things too have never been too hard.

You don't worry about 'proper' axle straps to attach the ratchet straps to? Also, everyone I talk to seems to heavily insist on using straps with captive hooks instead of the open ones, which makes a lot of sense to me but drives the price up a bit.

I found these and was thinking about picking them up but it seems a bit steep for what the kit comes with.

I don't tow cars regularly so I haven't invested too much into good equipment...

Well thanks for chiming in, we will be towing it about 6 hours on the interstate so I'd rather not have it end up in the hood of another car(they'd probably be kinda mad, the Mustang would probably still get raced anyways... haha).

Haha do you always go the hood for your ratchet?

Where else do you go for ratchets and ratchet accessories?

I've seen those, but have no experience. I only have experience with center locking wheels where the center is specifically for transport.

Those are interesting but we'd have to add D-rings to the trailer for that and I'm not sure we're at liberty to do that at the moment. :(

Ahhhh, you hadn't mentioned them so thought I'd suggest.

...pics of racecar?

We got tie-down straps at Wal-Mart when we borrowed a trailer for the 'lump. Make sure they add up to enough capacity to hold your racecar's fat butt in place.

We have some 2in straps from wally world at the moment and while the numbers more than add up, it doesn't inspire confidence, and we actually had a different strap break before purchasing the wally world ones to get it back home. Needless to say losing a car off the trailer is NOT something I want to do again.

On a related note, you should have seen the look on the faces of the people at the autocross when they were teching the car in while we beat the radiator support back straight with a minisledge and told them that the car fell off the trailer on the way! But isn't that the joy of having a Lemon?

Balls!

And yep, haha, that's LeMons. I have a hammer indentation from trying to open my hood now. I'm bizarrely fine with that.

We were going to do that one as well but I don't think we can swing it financially and didn't secure a spot, July at Sebring is still on the table though.

Kinda funny but Eagles Canyon and Sebring are actually the same distance from us. Eagles Canyon was a blast last year though, quite the fun track if you haven't driven there before.

Noice! Very jealous of the Sebring race. That's probably out for me, but man. Miller on the schedule really, really makes me want to see if work needs someone to check in on the Utah office that weekend. Haha.

I haven't done ECR before, so hopefully I actually get to drive this race. Don't break! DON'T BREAK.
